We just wanted to thank all the artists and the organisers for a terrific jazz festival, especially thanks to The New Orleans Allstars, A Great Finale to a wonderful weekend. We look forward to next years festival.

Many thanks

Peter O'Malley
Hope the Jazz festival went well as it looked to us that Newark can do with all the extra trade it can attract. Peter Duncan and his 'crew' need congratulations on an imaginative venture and we hope it will become an annual event.

George Wilkinson, Chairman, Newark Civic Trust
It is wonderful to have the opportunity to congratulate the Jazz Festival team both for the phenomenal organisation and fantastic outcome. Bravo!

Leonard Philbrick
Another excellent festival and even bigger crowds than last year; the town was jumping. Well done.

Here's to next year !

Mrs Suzanne McCarthy
Our family were able to see many more of the events this year than previously, and we enjoyed it immensely. We were struck by how well organised the festival was, and as a consequence, how smoothly it ran. The sheer variety of events and places meant that no matter how precarious the weather, there was always good Jazz to be heard in a wide range of venues to suit every need and taste.

At a time of economic uncertainty, the festival was not only a splendid weekend for spectators, but clearly brought a welcome mini boom for the many businesses involved. I feel sure that in the latter respect the benefits will continue to develop over the coming months.

Thank you all for your work and please pass on out appreciation to the rest of the Jazz team - we look forward to next year.

Ann, Peter and all at the Jazz Festival,

Just wanted to say a big thank you for the weekend, we really enjoyed all the events especially those at your place and wish the event every success in the future. It really is a pleasant suprise to come back to such a good vibe in town.

Could I first congratualte you and your fellow directors on the best Jazz Festival yet.

I certainly enjoyed all the events I attended, and was proud to be involved in a small way as a steward, and would be more than willing to do the same next year.

Geoff Gurd
as usual a pleasure to play in front of the Newark crowd - they are very appreciative and they know their music. Too much to hope for 3rd time lucky but if we are invited back we'll come with pleasure - thanks again to Paul and the gang for inviting us to perform

Christine
Better late than never! It was a really good event, well organised and fun, with lots of very good jazz and all that was the best culminating in the final concert, with Tony O'Sullivan, Phil Parnell, Andrew Hall, Shirley Alexander and others.

Maybe for future festivals some dance venues?

c
Well done everybody and particularly Andrew Hall for his band's performance at the Navigation on Friday night.

Peter Hunter
On Saturday night I went to see Tony O'Sullivan's Band at the Castle Pub. Excellent music, the place was packed.
On Sunday I saw Spicy Advice with Roger Bird before moving on to Ann et Vin to see Andrew Hall's New Orleans AllStars. A fantastic band with 2 guests from New Orleans, Shirley Alexander and Phil Parnell. An evening of great New Orleans music.
Congratulations to the Organisers.

Sarah Bennett
Dear Newark organisers,
Thank you so much for inviting the trio; we had a lovely day first at Strays, where everyone was so lovely; thank you to you and your staff Mat; don't know how you coped, and then at Zizzi's. Managed to see some of Tim Kilphuis in the Town Hall and it was a lovely treat. Thank you for all your hard work; it just wouldn't happen without that!
Best Wishes
Sarah B

What a great weekend!

I went to see Victoria Hart on Saturday, she was even better than last year and it was a great evening. I loved the unticketed events in cafes, and went to see a couple of trios at Starbucks and Stray's, a great way to enjoy the music with a really nice atmosphere!

Can't wait for next year's festival, which I'm sure will be bigger and better than ever before!

Well done to the organisers for all their hard work, it really paid off!

The opening event in the parish church was wonderful - Ms Alexander's amazing pipes certainly shook any dust from the rafters! Nathan Bray's composition dedicated to Newark ticked all the boxes for me- is there a cd of this available? Victoria Hart and her band were amazing - the quality and variety of events was superb.I attended quite a few and had a marvellous time. Thank you to all concerned.

jazz fan
We went to the Navigation Inn on Sunday night, and found that the advertised band had cancelled at the last minute.
However, our local star Denny Goodwin on guitar and vocals, had gathered a bunch of really talented local musicians, Roy Birchley trumpet, Keith Widdowson guitar, Roger Asher bass and George Buckman drums.
The guys kept the evening alive and people dancing till late in a great venue. The atmosphere was brilliant, and I'm sure it ought to happen again.
The festival organisers shouldn't overlook our local musicians who keep jazz alive all year in Newark.

Chris
What a brilliant weekend, and such an array of talent and music style. What a brilliant move to have Shirley Alexander there as well. She had the audience moving and singing along. Well done to Andrew Hall for his expertise and experience!

Paul Ripley
Thanks ever so much for the most incredible evening of Jazz.
Victoria Hart is the best live musician I have ever enjoyed, she swings, she sings, she stole my musical soul.
The "pub" jaz was amazing. I would never had thought that a rather depressing town like Newark could come to life with such vibrancy. I just hope my town, Mansfield, steals the show from Newark!
Well done, the organisation was excellent, I wil;l be coming with my partner, my family and friends next year. We will probably stay in Newark for the whole weekend and enjoy the pretty good looking restaurants.
Thanks again
Paul.

Tim Kliphuis
Dear Paul, Nathan and Peter, my Trio had a wonderful time at the festival thanks to the strong sense of community, good crowds and enthusiastic support from the organisers (that one is a lowland Scot we won't hold against him). Keep up the good work and see you soon again!

Tony
Yet another magnificent feat of organization and a great weekend of fabulous music. Thanks for all your efforts!

JP
What a triumph! I just wanted to write a note of congratulations on what was one of the most successful events Newark has seen - a force to be reckoned with indeed.

Clement
It was a great jazz festival. It was super to meet Tim Kliphuis, he's really nice, talented and open minded. We are looking forward to see him again in Newark... I hope you had a great time as well. best regards.

Colin W
Thanks to you all for three days of heaven! Memorable moments to treasure till next year.

A.M.S in Kent
Once again the Newark Jazz Festival proved to be a very well organised affair.

Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed the venues we visited and we met many very satisfied jazz aficionados. Every venue was very well attended and we had a great time throughout - starting at the Church on Friday evening through to Tim Kliphuis at the Town Hall Ballroom on Sunday evening, and the Jazz Parade on Sunday was brilliant! It was good to see the young (and not so young) having such a good time. This Festival continues to put Newark very much in the forefront of the Jazz Festivals taking place throughout Britain and we're already looking forward to booking our places for next year's event.

Thank you so much to everyone responsible. Well done.

Shirley Alexander, Gospel singer
Honey, when I arrived at that beautiful church I expected a bunch of stuffy English people!! But after I had done a couple of hymns they all loosened up and felt the music. What a wonderful, warm and responsive audience they were and such nice folks in Newark. I would love to come back.

Thank you for the performers and organisers of the above fantastic weekend,
this is a real diary event now in the Jazz calendar and realise it does not
just happen but takes many hours work and dedication of the movers and
shakers to get it to the event that is has become. Well done and thank you.

Wonderful wonderful weekend! Thank you SO much to all the people who made it happen. The citizens of Newark salute you! So many special moments/performances but my highlights include Nathan's amazing 'Key to the North', the energy and rhythms of Neil Cowley and the beautiful atmosphere and stunning sounds created by the Tim Kliphuis trio and Dave Newton in the Town Hall ballroom. Sheer magic. See you next year!
